With it's arched entry, Rowe's Wharf is known as "The Gateway To Boston".
In the 1600s Rowe's Wharf was a neighborhood known as South Battery.
John Rowe built the original Rowe's Wharf in 1764, it was quite active well into the 1800's.
It was used mainly for Industrial and Commercial shipping traffic.
Access to the rest of the city could be had by ferry, train, and the elevated railway which made this area very popular.
These days the Wharf is used by cruise ships, commuter boats and water taxis.
The grounds feature restaurants, condos and a beautiful park, not to mention a beautiful view of the city!
