The Custom House is Boston's First Skyscraper!
Built in the 1800's for the inspection and regulation of cargo going in and out of the city. Originally it was built in Greek Temple style, the tower, in Italian Renaissance style, was added later.
Today, the Custom House is used as timeshare condos and its clock can be seen from many areas of the city

Former housing for the Boston Produce Exchange, the Boston Commercial Exchange, and the Boston Chamber of Commerce.
"Originally a meeting hall for the Boston Chamber of Commerce, the Exchange was built on land donated by streetcar magnate Henry M. Whitney and completed in 1892. Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge designed the tiered arches and rock-faced masonry which exemplify the Romanesque Revival style of H.H. Richardson. The sturdy walls and elaborate design reflect an expression of financial security appropriate to the city's commercial circles. The exterior was restored by The Beal Companies in 1988." ~ Inscription
