Boston has some of the oldest Cemeteries
in the country!
Featured here is the Granary Burial Ground and King's Chapel, both located on Tremont Street in Boston.
The Granary Burying Ground was established in 1660.
The City set aside a part of the Boston Common because King's Chapel Burying Ground was getting too full. Its estimated that 5,000 people are buried at the Granary. which is named after the grain building that was located where Park Street church now stands. Paul Revere, Sam Adams, John Hancock and other notables were buried here. The 25 foot tall obelisk commemorates Ben Franklin's parents... click here for more!
The King's Chapel Burying Ground
Across the street and a wee bit down the road is the final resting place for John Winthrop, our first Governor and also Mary Chilton, the first woman to step off the Mayflower, amongst others...click here for more!
