The North
End
Boston Massachusetts
The History of the North End is fascinating!
Dating back to the early days of America where it held some of the wealthiest families, before moving to Beacon Hill.
By the mid 1700's it was the commercial hub!
In the early 1800's the Irish started filling up the North End to escape the Potato Famine.
Hard workers that they are, the Irish worked as servants to those on the Hill and also helped fill in the swamp that later became the Back Bay.
By the late 1800's the Jewish population was taking over the North End, with the Italians moving in close behind.
Somewhere along the way, the North End became a place where even the Police feared to tread...but that's history.
Today the North End is a warm comfortable community with a bit of an Old World feel to it.
Mostly Italian to this day, the North End still shows traces of all of its history.
